Excessive stress is something that many people who come into my wellness centre struggle with. Strategies for Stress Relief
Although there is such a thing as good stress, bad stress can create imbalances within your body that can lead to disease. However, there are a lot of things you can do to build stress resiliency, especially as you get ready for one of the most stressful times of the year.
One of the main things I tell patients who visit my wellness centre for help with chronic stress is to stop relying on comfort foods and opt for dense foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. For example, instead of digging into a tub of ice cream when you get stressed, try reaching for foods that are high in B vitamins, magnesium, and vitamin C.
Another thing you can do to take control of your stress is to work out! Exercise is associated with many great health benefits, and can help you restore chemistry balance within your body. Yoga is one of my favourite exercises to do when I’m feeling stressed.
Finally, I strongly recommend getting outside and enjoying what nature has to offer when you feel like you have to deal with more than you can handle. I am confident that as soon as you step out your front door, you will begin to feel the healing powers of nature.
